Progress Update on New Scoreboard Installation at LNER Community Stadium

York Stadium Management Company (York SMC) is pleased to provide an update on the installation of the highly anticipated new scoreboard at the LNER Community Stadium, which will enhance the experience for fans, clubs and event organisers alike.

About the New Scoreboard

The new scoreboard, supplied by DigiLED Limited, measures an impressive 8m x 4.5m and will be installed in the North West corner of the stadium. This modern, high-quality screen replaces the original scoreboard installed when the stadium opened, and it is to be specifically angled to ensure maximum visibility for fans throughout the venue. DigiLED, a globally renowned provider of sports stadia technology, has delivered successful installations for prestigious clients, including Yorkshire County Cricket Club, the O2 Arena and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

The current interim 6m x 3m scoreboard, located in the West Stand, will be relocated to the FanZone. Once installed, it will mirror content from the main scoreboard and can also operate independently for various events.

Installation Timeline

The scoreboard was procured four months ago, once funding had been secured through York SMC’s parent company, GLL, and commercial terms for its use had been agreed in principle, and in writing, by both licensed clubs. Since then, the project has been progressing steadily behind the scenes however it will become visible to everyone visiting the stadium in coming weeks:

  • Steelworks and groundwork: The supporting steel infrastructure has been designed and fabricated, with groundwork adjacent to the stewards’ room already completed. Installation is set to begin during the week commencing 25 November 2024
  • The scoreboard itself has been shipped from the Far East and is scheduled to be lifted into place during the week commencing 16 December 2024. The digital infrastructure linking the screen to the stadium systems will be installed simultaneously.

Final sign-off to all parties’ satisfaction is expected shortly thereafter, enabling all stadium users to benefit from the new technology.

Benefits for Clubs

Importantly, clubs will be able to generate increased advertising and sponsorship revenue, significantly enhancing their currently available commercial opportunities.

The scoreboard will offer a range of enhanced functionalities, including:

  • Displaying scores, team images, safety messages, and sponsor content.
  • Supporting TV coverage and integrated sound capabilities.
  • Interactive engagement features for fans and sponsors, offering clubs innovative opportunities to elevate matchday experiences.

The relocated FanZone scoreboard will further support interactive content and independent operation for community or club events.

York SMC is excited to bring this upgraded technology to the LNER Community Stadium, ensuring a better experience for all users and unlocking new commercial opportunities for its partner clubs.
