Statement Following Fixture Against Ebbsfleet United – Saturday 19th October 2024
Following the recent fixture between York City FC and Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, 19th October 2024, York Stadium Management Company (SMC) regretfully reports further damage to seats in the South Stand. Despite a previous appeal from the Club to supporters in September, additional damage has occurred, leading to significant and unnecessary costs being incurred, particularly ahead of Tuesday night’s important top-of-the-table clash against Barnet.
We kindly ask supporters to continue to uphold standards of conduct and behaviour that align with the Club’s exciting on-field performances and ambitions this season. Whilst creating a fantastic and positive match day atmosphere, it is really important that supporters also respect and protect the wonderful facilities that the Club enjoys.
In addition to the damage, we would also like to address an incident concerning the use of photographic equipment in breach of National League and Ground Regulations. Before the match, the Club identified an individual who had previously been observed using equipment that did not comply with the required guidelines which the Club asked the SMC to monitor and intervene as appropriate. Despite early communication and intervention, the individual continued to use their equipment, leading to further proportionate action.
Today we facilitated a meeting between the Club and the individual to explain the context of the Club’s concern and the events that unfolded. This was an extremely positive discussion with all parties understanding and respecting each other’s actions and we are delighted that the matter has been resolved to everyone’s satisfaction. The SMC has also extended an invitation for all involved to attend an upcoming Stadium Awareness Group meeting which delves into the ‘behind the scenes’ operations on match day and non-match days at the LNER Community Stadium.
We would like to remind all fans that National League regulations permit only photographers with official Vanarama National League Photographic Licences to take photos at matches using equipment of certain dimensions. Additionally, Ground Regulations prohibit any recording or transmission of images without the proper license. These rules apply across all clubs, and York City FC has an internal media accreditation process in place to ensure compliance.
We stand firmly alongside York City FC in urging all supporters to respect these regulations, regardless of whether they feel they are excessive, unreasonable or unfair. This is essential for ensuring a safe, enjoyable matchday experience for everyone. By adhering to these standards, the Club can also avoid potential sanctions, including monetary fines or point deductions, should any breaches be reported by visiting League or FA officials.
We thank all supporters for their continued cooperation and look forward to a successful and positive season ahead.
